A ceremony to collect signatures for the August 30, 2021 Accord was disrupted on Monday August 30 at the Montana Hotel after a group of individuals burst into the room where the collection was taking place.
This violent interruption by the militants failed to delay the signing process. Magalie Comeau Denis, actress and former Minister of Culture told Gazette Haiti that 120 signatures have already been collected since the day before the ceremony. About another 71 signatures were collected during the days ceremony.. “More than 200 signatures from organizations, political arties and civil society groups have already been collected as part of this process“, she confirmed.
Magalie Comeau Denis also confirmed that OPL, INIFOS, MOPOD, ANTANT POU TRANZISYON KOUPE FACHE, RPH of Patrice Dumont, FPP, KOUMBIT, MTC, CADOA, IPAM, CONACOM du RENOUVEAU have already signed the Accord.
The Democratic and Popular Sector (SDP) demanded that their name be removed from the list of signatories. In response Denis refused to remove their endorsement. She did confirm, however, that each political party and civil society group who signed the Accord must send their representative to the National Transitional Council (CNT). The SDP is welcome to attend the CNT meeting if they change their mind, she said.
Denis informed the press that the Accord would be left at the office of the National Network for the Defense of Human Rights (RNDDH) so other representatives could sign.
