Haiti has experienced a widespread uprising in recent days, but you would not know it if you follow mainstream media. The immediate cause of the upheaval is a sharp increase in fuel prices, administered by a corrupt government that has the backing of major western powers. The people are fed up. There once was hope when they elected Aristide as their President. But that hope was destroyed by a US and Canadian backed coup in 2004.
