Canadian Ambassador André Giroux and Secretary of State for Public Security Mario Andrésol discuss the fight against crime

Canadian Ambassador André François Giroux met with Secretary of State for Public Security Mario Andrésol on Friday, February 14. Discussions focused on the fight against armed gangs and possible security solutions to protect the population.

During the discussions, Giroux praised the commitment of the Haitian National Police (PNH) in the fight against crime. He stressed the need for increased support for law enforcement, while emphasizing the importance of strengthening judicial mechanisms to end the impunity of gangs and their sponsors.

For his part, Andrésol reaffirmed the determination of the Haitian authorities to restore peace and public order. He insisted on the urgency of dismantling criminal networks and guaranteeing justice to the victims of this violence.

The Canadian Embassy reiterated its unwavering support for Haiti’s efforts to strengthen its security. It called for close cooperation with local authorities to achieve lasting solutions. As the international community closely monitors the situation, the need for concrete actions to restore the rule of law in Haiti becomes more pressing.
