At Citadelle Henri, the horror has reached a breaking point. Families are forced to pay to recover the bodies of their loved ones, abandoned on a site given over to the indifference of the authorities.
Our special correspondent Yves Siméon reports that locals are demanding up to 1,000 gourdes to help families find or bring down bodies from the steep ridge of Bonnet-à-l'Évêque.
With no intervention from the authorities, bereaved parents have no choice but to pay to recover the remains of their loved ones.
Perched at 900 meters altitude, in the commune of Milot, this historic site has transformed into a zone where even death is negotiated.
