"Punches way above its weight, as the best independent documentaries do... Restores the honor of the great muckraking tradition of digging for answers long after the rest of the media has abandoned the scene." -James Wolcott, Vanity Fair
People in Canada and the U.S. donated more than $1.6 billion after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. What happened? Filmmaker Michele Mitchell went to Haiti to find the answer.
What she found was the big business of emergency aid. Three years following the earthquake of January 12, 2012, hundreds of thousands of Haitian are still living in squalid survivor camps and cholera is an ongoing menace. Some say that what is happening is little more than disaster profiteering. Others say relief organizations (some 10,000 international aid groups and charities) are doing the best they can under very difficult circumstances.
Haiti: Where Did The Money Go? takes viewers from crowded homeless camps to the boardrooms of relief organizations, talking to survivors, anthropologists and aid experts to explore how disaster aid works.
