The office of Kenscoff Mayor Jean Massillon published a clarification following statements broadcast on Saturday, August 29, 2026, on Radio Éclair's "Micro Vérité." In this interview, Professor Jean Elysée Celiscard allegedly mentioned supposed ties between the mayor and armed groups, while also drawing a connection to the massacre that occurred on August 23 and 24 in Kenscoff.
In its response, the mayor's office denies these accusations. It states that, to its knowledge, no evidence has been provided to support the allegations made against Jean Massillon.
The mayor's office also points out that he has been waging a battle against armed groups since January 27, 2025, and rejects any form of collusion with them. Those close to the mayor believe that the statements broadcast constitute a "conflation" likely to damage his honor and reputation.
The mayor's office invokes journalistic responsibility.
In its statement, the municipal administration acknowledges the importance of press freedom, while calling on media professionals to respect the principles of fact-checking and source credibility.
"Freedom of the press is sacred; manipulation of information is not," the mayor's office maintains, arguing that journalism must be based on verified facts, credible sources, and a particular responsibility in the face of the population's suffering.
This reaction comes at a particularly sensitive time in Kenscoff, marked by the violence and loss of life recorded in recent days. The mayor's office insists that the victims and their families must not become the subject of a political battle.
A call for justice and truth
Jean Massillon's office is therefore calling for an investigation into the events that brought grief to Kenscoff and asserts that responsibilities must be established on the basis of verifiable evidence.
He also warned that anyone who knowingly spread false accusations could, in his view, be held accountable before the appropriate authorities.
"Kenscoff demands justice, truth, and dignity," the firm concluded, stating its intention to oppose any attempt at political manipulation surrounding the victims of the violence.
At this stage, the accusations mentioned by the mayor's office remain contested and require independent and verifiable evidence to be established.
The situation remains uncertain in Kenscoff. The population fears a new offensive, while the police suffer from a serious deficit of trust and credibility, after being unable to prevent the massacre that occurred on the night of August 23-24, 2026.
