Krisla takes control of EDH Power Plant #2

By Haiti Libre, May, 29, 2026

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, heavily armed men from the gang led by Chief "Krisla" took control of Haiti's Electricity (EDH) Power Plant #2 located in Thorland, in the commune of Carrefour.

Following threats of a takeover last week, Krisla's men took action and peacefully seized control of the power plant facilities, demanding the immediate evacuation of all personnel on site. According to internal accounts, no employees were physically harmed, and no major damage to the infrastructure was reported.

“Krisla” justifies this occupation with a specific demand: he insists that the municipality of Carrefour benefit from a continuous electricity supply of at least 8 hours per day, specifically to guarantee the broadcasting of matches during the period of the 2026 World Cup!

This attack has dealt a fatal blow to EDH's electricity production. Following the shutdown of the Péligre hydroelectric plant and the sabotage of five pylons on the 115 kV high-voltage transmission line on June 17, 2025, the company now finds itself without any of its power plants. Indeed, of the three Carrefour plants, only Plant #2 was still operational, injecting 5 megawatts into the EDH grid.

Now, the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area can only rely on the 25 megawatts supplied by the private company E-Power, which only allows for the supply of about ten of the 45 EDH circuits in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area.

This takeover of strategic infrastructure exacerbates the collapse of essential public services (schools, hospitals, transport) already suffocated by the influence of criminal groups in the metropolitan area.
