Doctor Jean Hénold Buteau, the spokesperson for the l'Alternative Socialiste (Socialist Alternative), said the crisis in Haiti presents a real dilemma for the international community and its allies in Haiti. Particularly, the oligarchy, who, along wth their international allies, have greatly contributed to the current crisis.
On Monday, PM Justin Trudeau invited the United States and Europe, particularly France, to place more sanctions on some of Haiti's elites. Doctor Jean Hénold Buteau describes this approach as cosmetic. He emphasized that Haiti's real political problem stem from the fraudulent elections that allowed corrupt and incompetent men and women to attain leadership positions in government.
In his remarks on Monday, Trudeau indicated that stability is necessary before elections can be organized. Buteau said that it is impossible to begin discussing elections with Henry and his unelected government in power.
