The Minister of Social Affairs Marc Elie Nelson was not welcome in the Champin neighborhood of Cap-Haïtien on Sunday, April 26, 2026. Several residents bitterly opposed the distribution of food kits, raising more pressing issues plaguing the community.
The citizens, mostly young people, categorically rejected the distribution of rice, canned peas, spaghetti, and oil undertaken by Minister Marc Elie Nelson. The Minister of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (MAST) came away empty-handed from this latest half-hearted initiative.
Meanwhile, the population was clear. Their real needs are illustrated by proper cleaning of the sewers, construction and repair of roads, creation of new jobs, among other things.
Citizens say they are tired of the same initiatives from each government, where distribution of food kits has become the norm.
On social media, users support the population's reaction. Will the authorities actually take note of this refusal and now commit to implementing genuine social projects for the benefit of the population?
