Prime Minister's Villa to receive Presidential Council

By Isabelle Papillon, Haiti Liberté, May 5, 2024

The Transitional Presidential Council will not be installed at the National Palace in Champ de Mars, but rather at the Primature building, Villa d'Accueil, located in the luxury district of Bourdon, on the morning of Thursday April 25, 2024. Leslie Voltaire, a member of the Presidential Council, announced the news.

This measure was taken just after a report was delivered by a delegation comprising Leslie Voltaire, Himmler Rebu and Raymond Jeanty to assess the area surrounding the palace. The delegation met with the Secretary General of the Presidency Josué Pierre Louis and the administrator of the Palais National.

In the final analysis, the Palais National, the home of the presidency, was not chosen to be soiled by presidential advisors taking orders from CARICOM and the US State Department. So, under the pretext of insecurity, they prefer to go to the office of their de facto colleague, former Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

The diplomatic and consular corps will be present. Each councillor will be entitled to 10 guests so that security measures are not exceeded by an avalanche of people. For there will be a good number present not only to attend the ceremony, but to request positions as ministers, directors and the like.

It's not surprising as nothing has changed: it's the same corruption song that we'll continue to hear here and there. And the crisis will continue and get worse and worse, since the imperialists can't resolve anything in the interests of the Haitian masses. There will be no improvement in jobs, wages, food security, decent housing, education or health care for the working masses.

The choice of the Prime Minsters villa as a location to install the Presidential Council may seem insignificant, but won't the symbolism work to the disadvantage of others in the political elite? Those who categorically reject the Presidential College project?

Furthermore, the election of the Council's president or coordinator, due to take place on Tuesday April 22, has been postponed due to the absence of one of the councillors, Montana group representative Fritz Alphonse Jean. Is this marooning or not? In any case, the appointment has been made, that just after the installation, on April 25, 2024, the nomination or election by vote of the person who will have the task of leading this Council will take place.

The main candidates are Gérald Gilles, Fritz Alphonse Jean, Leslie Voltaire and Edgard Leblanc Fils. Councillor Régine Abraham will deliver the keynote address today.

The country is about to enter a new phase, but it won't be the end unless the people take their destiny into their own hands and overturn this rotten system from top to bottom. This is the only way out of the crisis for the Haitian working masses.
