THE ELECTORAL COUNCIL LAYS ITS FIRST MARKS

On Friday, October 18, 2024, the seven (7) members of the Provisional Electoral Council appointed by decree, published on September 19, 2024, took the oath before the Court of Cassation of the Republic and were installed in their functions. They immediately constituted the office.

At the institutional level, the members of the Electoral Council have taken note of the technical files, before undertaking the necessary reforms in order to accomplish their mission in better conditions. They are proceeding with the analysis of an inventory document of the electoral system prepared and transmitted by the CEP executives.

From October 28 to 30, 2024, a delegation from the Electoral Council, composed of the President, Patrick SAINT-HILAIRE, the Treasurer, Jacques DESROSIERS, as well as the Executive Director, Max DELICES, participated in working meetings with members of the European Commission for Democracy and Law, known as the Venice Commission. These meetings took place under the auspices of the Organization of American States (OAS), in Washington, United States of America. The discussions focused on the holding of elections in Haiti. Security, constitutional reform, financing and the conduct of the electoral process were among the points that were discussed.

In addition, another delegation composed of President Patrick SAINT-HILAIRE, Vice-President Schnaïda ADELY, Executive Director Max DELICES, Director of Electoral Operations Abbé BERNARD and Deputy Clément Jude CHARLES, is staying in Washington as part of a program to observe the American elections. This delegation will meet with several American officials, the President of IFES and USAID officials.

The members of the Provisional Electoral Council undertake to do everything possible to conduct the referendum and electoral processes in a transparent and inclusive manner.
