Transitional Presidential Council announces finalization of political agreement between sectors

On Friday April 5, 2024, the Presidential Council announced the finalization of the political agreement between the various political, economic and social sectors. In a note bearing the signatures of the 7 representatives and 2 observers, the Council specifies that this agreement will be signed by the parties involved, after which the two documents will be officially transmitted to the government, via Caricom.

Further on, the statement informs that the agreement outlines the roadmap for the transition period that the Presidential Council will be responsible for executing, together with the next consensus government, with the aim of putting the country back on the path to stability, peace, unity, and progress.

"This transition is based on values and principles such as inclusion, citizen participation, integrity, peace, respect and protection of national sovereignty", reads the statement, which also emphasizes that this agreement sets out the transition's mode of political governance, as well as its mission, vision, and the main responsibilities of its institutional structures.

The Presidential Council's mission will be to: re-establish public security; organize the National Conference and Constitutional Reform; carry out democratic general elections.
