As the elections approach, the Haitian political landscape is undergoing a profound reshaping. According to information obtained by O-News 1ère, 227 political parties have chosen to join forces in order to strengthen their influence in the lead-up to the upcoming elections.
Of the 316 political parties registered and approved by the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), 227 have decided to form alliances. According to information gathered by O-News 1ère, the CEP had already registered 17 political groups as of Friday evening, marking a significant restructuring of the political landscape.
Meanwhile, 89 political parties have chosen to remain independent and not join any coalition. This strategy reflects the desire of some actors to maintain their autonomy as the next elections approach.
Between the 17 political groups and the 89 independent parties, the CEP now lists 106 political entities eligible to appear on the ballot. This number could change, however, if some groups decide to merge before the registration process is finalized.
