The Socialist Alternative (ASO) political party is calling for a consensus among national actors to define together the type of elections desired, their organization, those responsible and the guarantees essential to the process, according to a statement viewed by AlterPresse.
ASO believes that holding elections under the current security conditions "has nothing to do with democracy".
She sees it as "an irresponsible, reckless act and a direct act of contempt" towards the Haitian population, while specifying that she is not opposed to the principle of elections.
The organization rejects any consultations held under conditions that prevent "the free, safe and unintimidated participation of the people".
"The country needs elections, but credible, inclusive, transparent and legitimate elections, resulting from a national consensus and organized under conditions allowing all citizens to exercise their rights without fear, exclusion and constraint."
In a context marked by armed violence, the ASO warns that polling stations could fall under the control of armed groups.
"Such a vote would be nothing more than a semblance of democracy and a political trap, instead of a genuine exercise of the popular will," she emphasizes.
She points out that in three departments - the West, Artibonite and the Central Plateau - representing 50% of the territory and 57% of the electorate, the State exercises no control, even in the so-called "outside gang control" communes, where armed men impose their law and collect taxes on livestock.
The departments of the West and Artibonite are particularly exposed to major security challenges, risking excluding a large part of the electorate, while the next general elections are scheduled for December 13, 2026.
New departmental delegates for the West, Artibonite and the South were officially appointed following a Council of Ministers meeting held on May 6, 2026 at the National Palace.
In a press release dated August 6, 2026, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) announced the opening of 19 new Registration and Voting Centers (CIVs) in the West Department, bringing the total number of centers now operational in this geographical area to 29.
