The Executive Director of the National Human Rights Defense Network (RNDDH), Pierre Espérance is encouraging the population to be armed by police forces to aid in the offensive against the armed criminal gangs of "Viv Ansanm".
In a message sent to our editorial staff this Tuesday, Espérance shared his belief that at least 45 bandits were killed on November 19, 2024. The Haitian National Police, for its part, still speaks of around thirty alleged criminals killed in Pétion-Ville, Bourdon, Canapé-Vert, Delmas, Poste-Marchand and other neighborhoods.
Espérance labeled the “Viv Ansanm” coalition a terrorist group and urged the criminals to proceed preferably to the arrest of their leaders instead of attacking the civilian population. “We ask the young girls and boys armed by the terrorist leaders to rise up against their masters, proceed to arrest them, and then hand them over to the public security forces,” he said.
Espérance said he hoped that the police and the population would not obey the orders of the authorities to stop hunting for Viv Asanm members..
In addition, he took the opportunity to encourage the Haitian population to set up vigilance brigades to protect their neighborhoods against the violence of armed gangs. He advises the members of the brigades to apprehend anyone carrying illegal weapons and hand them over to the police.
