The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) published on Saturday the list of approved political groups for the upcoming elections, taking another step in the preparation for the vote scheduled for December.
In a press release dated August 8, 2026, the electoral institution announced that 15 of the 18 registered political groups had received a favorable opinion.
Three groups still waiting
The three groups that have not yet received a favorable opinion are not definitively excluded from the process: PLATFÒM POLITIK GRAS POU AYITI (PPGA) , GRAND RASSEMBLEMENT NATIONAL DÉMOCRATE (GRAND) , and GWOUPMAN RASANBLE (RASANBLE) . The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has given them until Tuesday, August 11, at 5:00 p.m. to regularize their situation and, if necessary, complete the required documents. The final number of approved groups could therefore still change after this deadline.
A new step before official registration
This decision comes as the registration process for political groups is set to continue according to the electoral calendar, from Monday, August 10th to Friday, August 14th. Political actors thus have a few days to complete this administrative step before addressing the next stages of the electoral process.
236 parties united within 18 groups
Before reviewing the applications, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) announced the registration of 18 groups representing a total of 236 political parties. The approval of 15 of these groups constitutes a first step in streamlining Haiti's particularly fragmented political landscape. The next phase will determine which candidates will actually be submitted to the electoral process.
The CEP reaffirms its commitment
In its press release, the Provisional Electoral Council reaffirms its commitment to conducting the electoral process in an "inclusive and impartial" manner, respecting the principles of independence, transparency, integrity, and democratic accountability. This statement comes as the CEP simultaneously continues voter registration operations and the gradual deployment of Registration and Voting Centers (CIVs) across the country.
A decisive week
The coming days will be crucial for political actors. August 11th at 5 p.m. is a key deadline for the three political groups that must regularize their status. Meanwhile, the registration period for political groups, which opened on August 10th, continues until August 14th. This series of deadlines gradually brings the process closer to the next major event: the review and validation of candidacies.
