The Alternative Socialiste (ASO) political party has issued a warning to the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) regarding the organization of the upcoming elections in Haiti.

In an open letter dated May 5, 2026, the party denounced any attempt to apply the National Pact for Stability and the organization of elections in the electoral process in preparation.

The document, signed by ASO coordinator Jean Paul Bastien, takes the form of a formal notice addressed to the president of the CEP.

Party officials claim to have been informed of the CEP's intention to use certain provisions of the political pact signed on February 23, 2026 to guide the electoral process.

ASO reiterates that the CEP must respect the Constitution and existing laws. According to the party, the political pact has no legally binding value.

The political structure also criticizes certain provisions of the document which, according to them, grant presidential prerogatives to the Prime Minister responsible for handling current affairs.

The signatories believe that such a move would constitute a violation of the Haitian Constitution and a risk to the democratic order.

In its correspondence, ASO warns that any application of the pact could entail the administrative, civil and criminal liability of the members of the CEP.

The party is asking the electoral institution to guarantee the neutrality of the process, equal treatment between political parties and transparency of future elections.

ASO also warns that any decision based on this pact will be challenged in the courts.

This stance comes amid tensions surrounding the political transition and the organization of elections in Haiti.
