Upon returning from the 51st Ordinary Session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of CARICOM, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé presented a summary of his participation in the regional summit at a press conference held in the Diplomatic Lounge of Toussaint Louverture International Airport on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. He announced the upcoming visit of a high-level CARICOM delegation to Haiti, as well as a pledge of 500 tons of rice from Guyana.
During his address, the Prime Minister reviewed the main issues discussed at the summit, held from July 5 to 8 in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia. He explained that he had exchanged views with regional leaders on security matters, the Haitian electoral process, and cooperation between Haiti and CARICOM member states.
Alix Didier Fils-Aimé indicated that he had informed his counterparts of the progress of the electoral process. According to him, the electoral decree has already been published, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has the necessary budget to organize the elections and should soon publish its electoral calendar. He also invited the distinguished figures of CARICOM to come and observe the progress made on the ground.
The Prime Minister confirmed that a high-level CARICOM delegation is expected in Haiti at the end of July to assess the progress made in terms of security and preparations for the upcoming elections. He reaffirmed that restoring security and organizing the elections remain his government's two main priorities.
The Prime Minister finally announced that the President of Guyana has pledged to donate 500 tons of rice to Haiti to support the government's efforts to combat food insecurity. He also reported on discussions with several partners regarding strengthening cooperation in the areas of security, training, health, and trade, as well as the renewal of the mandate of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMAS).
