More than 5,000 people have fled their homes after recent armed clashes in Cité Soleil, according to data published this Wednesday by OCHA on its official X account.
This new wave of displacement illustrates the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area, already facing persistent insecurity and severe social insecurity.
According to OCHA, displaced families face significant difficulties in accessing essential services, including clean water, food and health care.
In Cité Soleil, the clashes caused thousands of residents to flee. Women, children, and the elderly left their homes in haste, often without resources or accommodation.
In recent days, several displaced people have organized protest movements on the road leading to Toussaint Louverture International Airport, disrupting traffic to denounce insecurity and their living conditions.
On the ground, armed groups continue their expansion in several strategic districts of the capital, complicating humanitarian access and the movement of civilians.
Faced with this situation, humanitarian organizations continue to warn of the urgent need for a response tailored to the growing needs of the affected populations.
