The Haitian National Police Union (SPNH-17) expressed its deep sadness following the passing of Agent 3 Joseph Jn Pois Walex, a member of the 27th promotion of the Haitian National Police (PNH) and assigned to the Coast Guard service.
According to information communicated by the union on its Facebook page, the young police officer disappeared while participating in a security operation on board a tanker of the MV TUCKERNUCK company, coming from Gonaïves.
The officer's body has still not been found, a situation that is fueling concern among his relatives, colleagues, and many members of the public.
The exact circumstances of this disappearance remain unclear.
In its press release, the SPNH-17 recalls that the primary mission of the Coast Guard is to ensure the protection of the country's maritime spaces, to fight against illicit trafficking, smuggling and all forms of crime at sea.
The union also insists that this institution must not be used as a private security service for the benefit of commercial companies taking advantage of the current climate of insecurity in the country.
Faced with this worrying situation, the SPNH-17 calls on the competent authorities to act quickly.
The union is asking the Haitian justice system, the Superior Council of the National Police (CSPN) and the General Inspectorate of the PNH (IGPNH) to open a serious, independent and diligent investigation to shed full light on the disappearance of police officer Joseph Jn Pois Walex.
This case raises many questions and reignites the debate on the working and safety conditions of agents involved in maritime operations in Haiti.
