The Transitional Presidential Council has reached an impasse. Dominique Dupuy, representative of EDE/RED/Compromis historique, announced her departure on Sunday. She justifies her decision following "unfounded political attacks on [her] character, age and threats to [her] life", among other things. In a video posted on social networks this Sunday, March 24, 2024, Haiti's ambassador to UNESCO expressed her gratitude to those who supported her presence on the board, while denouncing the obstacles she says she faced as the only woman.
Grateful for the support received from the EDE/RED/Historical Compromise platform, Dupuy said "I say thank you to all those who believed in my ability to sit on the Presidential Council as the only woman".
Behind this gratitude lie darker realities. Dupuy claims to have been the target of "unfounded political attacks on [her] character, [her] age and threats to [her] life".
"My participation as the only woman among eight (8) men in this presidential council has been hampered by the obstacles that certain players want to create, such as the application of the age provision existing in the amended 1987 constitution, despite the fact that this transition process would not take place within a constitutional framework", she lamented.
Dominique Dupuy, 34, says she was born in Haiti. She explains that she has cultivated her "great civic sense" through the education that her parents and teachers have instilled in her since childhood.
At present, there are two presidential candidates in this so-called majority group. Former senators Louis Gérald Gilles and Edgard Leblanc Fils. The RED/EDE/Compromis Historique coalition is working to appoint another representative.
