Gerald Horne returns to discuss the Haitian Revolution and the response it elicited from the United States. Prof. Horne discusses the panic experienced by the slave holding republic in reaction to the prospect of enslaved peoples rising up, deposing their captors, and establishing an independent republic. Furthermore, we discuss the example Haiti set for other enslaved peoples in the Caribbean and American colonies, and how this ominous precedent was received by the likes of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.
