After several weeks of consultations and negotiations, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé has succeeded in rallying several political forces around the "National Pact for Stability and the Organization of Elections." This initiative aims to structure the ongoing transition and lay the groundwork for a return to constitutional order in a context marked by instability and a security crisis.

The Fanmi Lavalas, PHTK, Patriotic Congress, VIP, EDE, and ASE parties have confirmed their commitment to signing the document. Presented as a provisional governance framework, the pact aims to define the priorities of the interim executive and outline the process leading to general elections.

The signing ceremony took place this Saturday, February 21st, at the Ritz Kinam 2 Hotel, transformed for the occasion into the nerve center of political discussions. Representatives of signatory parties and organizations took turns speaking, officially marking the end of a phase of negotiations and the beginning of a new political phase that the government hopes will be consensual and inclusive. The pact places particular emphasis on national security and the organization of credible, transparent, and inclusive elections.

The signatories state their intention to present a united front against persistent insecurity and growing public distrust of institutions. Their stated objective is to restore a minimum level of stability to allow for elections deemed legitimate by all stakeholders.

However, the signing of the agreement is not without controversy. Representatives from other political parties, notably the so-called plural opposition coalition, went to the hotel to express their disagreement. According to them, this pact is more akin to a power-sharing arrangement than a genuine response to the suffering of the population. They advocate for a broader and more inclusive agreement that would prioritize the interests of the people at the heart of political decisions.
