Haitian National Police chief Paraison calls on the bandits to surrender

The Haitian National Police (PNH) is now capable of tracking down bandits wherever they are located within the country, stated the Director General of the National Police, André Vladimir Paraison, during a press conference with local media. The PNH commander issued a clear warning to armed groups, urging them to surrender if they do not want to face assaults from security forces deployed in the field, at the risk, he emphasized, of being killed during the operations.

“If you decide to surrender, call us or go to a church, a voodoo temple or a media outlet. We will come and get you and you will be brought before the competent authorities to answer for your actions,” said Mr. Paraison, expressing confidence.

The police chief also denounced the involvement of certain local authorities in the illegal tollbooths erected on national highways. According to him, it is not only armed groups that profit from the road blockages; some authorities are also benefiting.

André Vladimir Paraison confirmed the destruction of the wall linking National Route 2 to the capital. However, he questioned the exact identity of the groups still controlling some tollbooths, suggesting the possibility of small groups that have not yet been formally identified.

While traffic has resumed in several areas of the country, illegal tollbooths remain in place, acknowledged the head of the Haitian National Police (PNH). He assured, however, that measures will soon be taken to fully restore free movement on national highways.
