Several Business associations and Chambers of Commerce welcomed the government's publication of the electoral decree, which they believe will guarantee the credibility of the process. According to these associations the decree ensures that the political and social environment can guarantee "integrity, transparency, impartiality, inclusion, and modernization."
"Their success will, however, depend on their effective implementation, through clear procedures, rigorous technical protocols, transparent control mechanisms and real access for observers to critical stages of the process", the statement says.
The presidents of the various Chambers of Commerce and Employers' Associations (CCIH, CCICN, CCCIGS, ADIH, ATH, CFHCI, RPH, HAMCHAM, Institut Macaya, CCIHC) called on the CEP, the government, and all sectors concerned by the elections to work in a spirit of "responsibility, dialogue and transcendence, so that the next elections can contribute to the restoration of institutional stability, democratic legitimacy and the conditions indispensable to national recovery".
The draft electoral decree was at the heart of the debates and had divided the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) and the government. The document was finally published in the official gazette, Le Moniteur. The international community, through BINUH and the USA, welcomed its publication.
