“Katelyne Alexis was killed and then burned”: Eddy Saintellus accuses armed police officers at the Champ de Mars

The Haitian cultural sector is in mourning following the death of visual artist and sculptor Katelyne Alexis. According to statements by Eddy Saintellus, the father of her two children, she was killed and then burned at the Champ de Mars by armed men identified as brigadier officers and police officers.

The death of Katelyne Alexis has caused a great deal of emotion in Haiti. A committed artist, she was known for her work with recycled art and for her involvement in the Atis Rezistans collective.

In an interview with AyiboPost on May 22, Eddy Saintellus stated that the artist had recently been suffering from mental health issues. According to him, this situation had led her to seek refuge near the Champ de Mars.

According to him, Katelyne Alexis was then murdered and burned by armed men. These men were allegedly sergeants and police officers.

So far, no official confirmation has been published by the authorities regarding the exact circumstances of the tragedy.

 

An artist committed to recycled art

Katelyne Alexis regularly participated in the activities of the Ghetto Biennale, an artistic event recognized for highlighting creators from Haitian working-class neighborhoods.

Her works, created from recycled materials, addressed several major themes. In particular, she explored Vodou culture, environmental issues, and social realities in Haiti.

Through her work, the artist had established herself as an original voice on the contemporary Haitian cultural scene.

Following the announcement of his death, several figures in the arts community expressed their outrage. Many are now calling for an independent investigation to shed light on this affair.

The disappearance of Katelyne Alexis comes in a context marked by persistent insecurity in several areas of the Port-au-Prince metropolitan region.
