The Mouvement pour la Reconstruction et la Réconciliation Nationales (MORN) announced on Wednesday, February 4, the registration of its president, Jean Palème Mathurin, in the Presidential College initiated by the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) for the position of Prime Minister.

According to Mr. Mathurin, only the Haitian people should decide the outcome of the transition after the expiration of the CPT's mandate, scheduled for February 7. He emphasizes, however, that until that date, all institutional processes must go through the CPT in order to prevent a power vacuum and ensure an orderly transition.

MORN, which brings together more than fifty political parties and several thousand civil society organizations, firmly rejects the support expressed on the same day by the United States in favor of keeping Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé after the departure of the CPT.

Meanwhile, several other representatives of political parties and activists submitted their applications at the Montana Hotel for the positions of president or prime minister. The results of this process are expected to be announced soon, according to officials.

This initiative comes after three days of inter-Haitian dialogue, organized from February 1st to 3rd by the CPT, aimed at finding a consensus on the post-February 7th period and avoiding an institutional vacuum.

Some political groups, including the Fierté Nationale Haïtienne (FNH) party, support Mr. Mathurin's candidacy. According to the FNH, he is an honest and upright individual with no history of scandal in the country.
