Meeting in Kingston, Jamaica, several political leaders and civil society organizations involved in the inter-Haitian dialogue issued a joint declaration in which they express their support for a resolution of the crisis in Haiti.
These leaders are convinced of the urgent need to put an end to the suffering of the Haitian population cause by armed gangs. They are also concerned about humanitarian issues such as the flow of internally displaced people, the resurgence of cholera, and food insecurity.
The signatories of the joint-declaration propose several measures. First, they support the plan to set up a presidential college and a national unity government headed by a Prime Minister. This government will have to commit to respect the constitutional requirements concerning the participation of women.
Second, this transitional government will have to create the necessary conditions to inspire confidence in the population by establishing a climate of security to allow for economic activities to resume in order to hold credible, inclusive elections.
Finally, the signatories call for the establishment of a Monitoring Committee including representatives of CARICOM, to monitor the implementation of these measures.
The joint declaration was signed by several Haitian political leaders, including Emmanuel Ménard (Force Louverturienne Réformiste), Jerry Tardieu (EN AVANT), Liné Sainphor Balthazar (PHTK), Clarens Renois (UNIR), Edgard Leblanc (OPL), Claude Joseph ( EDE), Jean André Victor (MOPOD), and Marise Narcisse (Fanmi Lavalas).
